What should I bring/pack?

There are some general items that you should bring with you to The Dawn in order to feel more comfortable during your stay. We recommend bringing around one week’s worth of clothing (we have laundry facilities on site), toiletries and personal items. Some items that you should bring from home include:

  • Prescription medication
  • A list of emergency and information contacts (including next of kin and your doctor)
  • Sandals, walking shoes and running shoes
  • Several sets of fitness wear
  • Swimwear
  • Sunglasses
  • A hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellant
  • Spending money for excursions
  • Optional items such as books or a computer
What is the weather like?

The weather in northern Thailand is fairly straightforward. The weather is mostly dry between November to February and March to May, though November to February is cooler than the higher temperatures from March to May. Northern Thailand’s rainy period is from May to November. Chiang Mai’s average annual temperature is 25 degrees Celsius.

What is the admission procedure?

We follow a simple, yet robust, intake procedure. We start with initial contact from either a family member or potential client, where we gather the client’s personal details and history, provide an overview of The Dawn and answer any questions you may have. After initial contact, one of our staff members will contact the client to discuss their substance abuse history and medical issues.


We require a 10% deposit at the time of booking. After we receive the booking and deposit, we can help our clients with travel arrangements, such as visa support, flight bookings and airport transfers.

Will I have access to a phone/laptop/Wi-Fi?

Yes, though access will be on a limited basis. We provide phone, computer and internet access, which our clients can use at specific times during the treatment programme. You can discuss phone and internet use with your counsellor.

What is The Dawn’s refund policy?

We offer a 50% refund of the treatment fee within the first week of arrival should a client choose to leave the programme. No refund will be processed after 7 days of intake.

Will there be additional costs incurred during the stay/ Do I need to bring money?

Our fees are inclusive of all treatment, accommodation, food, activities, complementary therapies and more. However, you might want to bring some money in case you would like to buy something during one of our excursions, such as snacks or souvenirs.

Do I need a visa/ How do I get one?

Many countries are eligible for visa on arrival and do not require a visa for a 30-day stay in Thailand. If you have a passport that is not eligible for visa on arrival, then you must apply for a visa before coming to Thailand. We can check the requirements and process the visa for you, and we can also help you get a visa extension if you decide to stay for more than 90 days. Please note that a visa fee may be required.

Can The Dawn accommodate a vegetarian?

Yes, we certainly can accommodate a vegetarian at The Dawn. We have an onsite chef and nutritionist who can work with our clients to accommodate their individual needs based on their preferences, diet restrictions or medical requirements.

Is The Dawn licensed?

The Dawn is licensed by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health. Our treatment centre is run by a team of professionals who have extensive experience in treating addictions, and we also have medical staff available around-the-clock.

Do I have to participate in group sessions?

It is not mandatory to participate in group sessions, but we strongly encourage it, especially when it comes to the renowned 12 Steps programme.

Does The Dawn offer detox?

We offer drug and alcohol detox prior to treatment if it is required. We have medical staff that are available onsite 24 hours a day, 7 days a week that are in charge of performing detoxes. We recommend that clients who are severely dependent on substances like opioids and alcohol visit a local hospital for detoxification prior to coming to The Dawn, then our medical team can continue to monitor them and effectively treat any remaining withdrawal symptoms.
